GHACEM to expand production

World Cement,

GhanaWeb.com and other sources report that Ghana Cement Works (GHACEM) is to expand the production capacities of its plants at Takoradi and Tema to meet increasing demand. Each plant currently produces 1.2 million tpa and the expansion would enable the two plants to produce an additional 650 000 tpa each. Jean Marc Junon, Chairman of GHACEM said that the expansion of the Tema plant would begin in the first quarter of 2011 and is expected to be completed by the third quarter of 2012. Work on the expansion of the Takoradi plant will begin soon after the inauguration of the Tema plant. Junon said that the expansion programmes demonstrated the company’s efforts in consolidating its position as the country’s leading cement manufacturer.

Dr Ishmael Yamson, a member of the GHACEM Board, said the expansion programmes would cost €20 million and that companies doing business in the country must invest in the economy to create jobs and wealth.
