Carthage Cement, Tunisia, officially opened on 5 October following the start of commercial production in September. The new cement plant is said to be the most technologically advanced in Tunisia. The project was contracted to FLSmidth, whose scope of supply included a full pyroprocessing line, ATOX and UMS mills, silos, a complete automated ECS installation (expert control and supervision) as well as a packing plant. The plant also features a QCX quality control system, gas analysing equipment and air pollution control features. FLSmidth has further been contracted for operation and maintenance of the plant, comprising staffing of the plant, training of the staff and sourcing and inventory of spare parts and lubricants. Full details of FLSmidth’s work on the project can be found on the FLSmidth website.

The opening ceremony was attended by high profile figures, including Tunisia’s Minister in charge of Economic Affairs, the Minister of Industry and the Minister of Finance.
