Hima Cement brings new plant online in Uganda

World Cement,

Last week, Hima Cement began operations at its new plant in Uganda, which will raise production and supply levels by 500 000 tpa. The plant will increase Hima Cement’s capacity to 850 000 t.

Hillary Onek, Uganda’s Energy Minister, said in a statement: “I believe the new investment will go a long way in increasing the supply of cement in the local market, meaning Uganda will cease to be a net importer of cement.”

With a plethora of infrastructure projects underway in the nation, demand for cement should remain healthy for the remainder of 2010 at least.
