The Prime Minister of Cabo Verde, Ulisses Correia e Silva, visited CIMPOR's pozzolanic cement grinding plant in Santo Antão (Cabo Verde) to learn about the €6.75 million investment project.

The project aims to reactivate and triple the plant's production capacity and reinforce CIMPOR's long-standing commitment to the industrial and economic development of the archipelago.

The comprehensive restructuring of the unit will increase production capacity from 3 to 9 tph, representing a cement production capacity of approximately 200 t per shift, with a significant impact on the economic revitalisation of Santo Antão island. The investment includes the hiring of new employees, contributing to job creation and the retention of the local population. Production of pozzolanic cements 42.5 and 32.5 is scheduled to commence in June, following an operational testing phase planned for April.

Initially conceived as a refurbishment, the project evolved into a complete requalification of production conditions, culminating in the acquisition of an entirely new facility, rather than a mere recovery of the existing plant. This strategic decision, combined with a strong focus on cutting-edge technology and automation to ensure a state-of-the-art operation, contributed to a total investment of €6.75 million – more than double the initially projected value. The complexity of the intervention and the challenges in recruiting specialised labour in the region further underscore the scale of this investment, which reaffirms CIMPOR's determination to fulfil its long-term commitment to the development of Cabo Verde.

"This investment in the modernisation and expansion of our operation in Santo Antão is a clear testament to our confidence in the future of Cabo Verde," stated João Brito e Cunha, Country Manager for CIMPOR Cabo Verde. "By tripling our capacity, we reinforce our role as a partner in local development, creating employment and boosting the economy."

The visit took place in a particularly symbolic year for CIMPOR, as it celebrates 20 years of presence in Cabo Verde, marked by the multi-media institutional campaign "CIMPOR – 20 years at the heart of Cabo Verde." This campaign features an institutional film as its centrepiece and reflects CIMPOR's deep connection to the country, evident in the infrastructure it has helped to build and the lives of its communities.

The investment in Santo Antão and the celebration of two decades of activity reinforce CIMPOR's position as a solid and long-term partner in the progress of Cabo Verde.
