USGS data reveals production slightly down in US
The US Geological Survey has issued its report providing monthly data on the shipments of cement to final customers, and the production of clinker, in the US from January - June 2011. Data on the imports of cement and clinker for June 2011 are also provided.
Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the US and Puerto Rico for June 2011 were 7.3 million t. This was 2.8% higher than shipments in June 2010. Shipments for the year through June were 32.1 million t, only slightly lower than those of the same period in 2010. The leading producing States in June were Texas, Missouri, California, Michigan, and Pennsylvania, in descending order, and accounted for about 41% of the total production. The leading consuming States (Texas, California, Florida, Ohio, and Pennsylvania, in descending order) received about 34% of the June total shipments.
Clinker production totalled 5.8 million t in June, 2% lower than the output in June 2010. Production for the year through June was 28.4 million t, slightly lower than that for the same period in
2010. The leading clinker-producing States in June were Texas, Missouri, California, Pennsylvania, and Michigan, in descending order, and these accounted for almost 47% of the total for the month.
Masonry cement shipments in June of about 181 000 t were about 6% lower than shipments in June 2010. Shipments for the year through June were 894 000 t, down by almost 9% from those through June 2010. The leading consuming States, in descending order, were Texas, Florida, California, North Carolina, and Georgia, and these took nearly 43% of June’s total shipments.
June 2011 imports of cement and clinker of about 736 000 t were up by about 9% from those in June 2010. Imports for the year totalled 2.86 million t, down by about 3% from those for the year through June 2010.
