USA: Total cement shipments up 11% in July 2013

In July 2013, total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the US and Puerto Rico were up 11% y/y at approximately 8.1 million t, according to the latest USGS data. The leading Portland cement-producing states were Missouri, California, Texas, Michigan and Florida, accounting for some 44% of the total shipments in July. The leading consumers were Texas, California, Florida, Ohio and Illinois.

Clinker production declined slightly y/y at 6.2 million t, though production for the January – July period was slightly up at 38.6 million t. The leading clinker-producing states were Texas, California, Missouri, Alabama and Florida.

Masonry cement shipments rose 12% y/y at 194 000 t in July, while year-to-date shipments were up almost 6% at 1.19 million t.  July’s imports of cement and clinker came in about 24% below the July 2012 figures.
