Cemex has signed an agreement with the United Nations Foundation to join its Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves. This is a public-private partnership that aims to create a strong global market for clean and efficient household cooking solutions to do away with open fire stoves, which cause household air pollution and are very damaging to people’s health and safety.

Over the last three years, Cemex has been working in the clean cookstoves field, developing and providing sustainable solutions in alliance with governments, social entrepreneurs, universities and NGOs.

“By joining the Alliance, Cemex will foster the adoption of cookstoves in Latin America and Asia, strengthening our ongoing CSR efforts in these regions and contributing to the well-being of their communities,” said Lorenzo H. Zambrano, Cemex Chairman and CEO.

“I very much welcome Cemex’s partnership with the Alliance,” said Radha Muthiah, Alliance Executive Director. “Their expertise will contribute to the accomplishment of our objectives.”
