US cement output in February 2015: Mineral Industry Survey

In February 2015, clinker production in the US rose by 14% compared to the same month in 2014, totalling approximately 4.6 million t. Production for the year through February was 10 million t, increasing by almost 16% y/y.

Texas, California, Missouri, Florida, and South Carolina, in descending order, were the leading clinker-producing States in February, accounting for 57% of total output.

Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the US and Puerto Rico, in February 2015, increased 2% y/y to approximately 4.8 million t. Shipments for the year through February totalled 10.2 million t, increasing by 7% y/y.

Texas, California, Florida, Missouri, and Alabama, in descending order, were the leading producing States for Portland and blended cement in February.

The leading consuming States (Texas, California, Florida, Arizona, and Georgia, in descending order) received about 54% of the February shipments.

Masonry cement shipments in February 2015 of about 135 000 t were mostly unchanged from those of February 2014.

Florida, Texas, California, Georgia, and North Carolina (in descending order) were the leading masonry cement-consuming States, receiving about 65% of February’s shipments.

February 2015 imports of cement and clinker of 398 000 t saw an increase of 3% compared to those in February 2014. Imports for the year through February totalled 970 000 t, increasing by 22% y/y.
