Double-digit growth for Colombia’s cement industry
The positive news for Colombia’s cement sector continues, with the latest statistics from DANE revealing growth in both grey cement production and consumption volumes.
In September 2014, cement production increased by 6.9% y/y to 1.07 million t, while domestic consumption improved by 10.6% y/y to reach 1.085 million t.
In January – September 2014, dispatches of grey cement on the national market came in at 8.85 million t, up 11.4% y/y. Production levels were 11.6% higher than in the corresponding period in 2013, rising to 9.11 million t. On a regional basis, dispatches decreased by 23.7% in Córdoba but grew in Antioquia (15.5%), Cundinamarca (19.7%), North Santander (32.1%), Magdalena (32.7%), Huila (25.6%) and Bogotá (4.1%).
On an accumulated basis, production of grey cement totalled almost 12.2 million t in the 12 months to September 2014, up 11.6%. Dispatches increased by 11% to 11.77 million t during the period, with sales up in 20 of the 21 regions analysed.
