World Cement,

The State Government of Bahia, Brazil, and CPX Baiana Mineração e Partiçipões S/A have signed a protocol of intent for the installation of an industrial unit in Lajedinho, 355 km from the capital of Bahia. A cement plant with a production capacity of 800 000 tpa will supply the local market, which currently imports the product. The project represents an investment of R$450 million, with construction set for 2013 – 2015. Around 1000 jobs will be created during the construction phase and 200 once operations begin at the plant.

According to preliminary results from the SNIC, Brazil’s domestic cement sales increased by 3.8% y/y in November 2012 to reach 5.8 million t. Sales volumes for January – November 2012 were also higher than the corresponding period in 2011, rising from under 59 million t to over 63 million t.
