Buzzi Unicem announce expansion plans for Maryneal plant

Buzzi Unicem USA has announced that it plans to modernise and expand its cement plant located in Maryneal, Texas. The project will more than double production capcity from 550 000 tpa to 1.2 million tpa in order to meet increasing demand for cement from the construction, oil and gas industries. The company also plans to reduce the plant’s environmental footprint through the installation of state-of the-art pollution control equipment that will significantly reduce the plant’s emissions of NOX and comply with other environmental limits.

The major components of the expansion include a new raw mill, a new preheater/precalciner kiln and cooler system, a new 4500 kW finish mill and continued use of the newly commissioned Fives FCB Horomill® Finish Mill. A new solid fuel grinding and feed system will also be added during the expansion.

David Nepereny, Buzzi Unicem USA’s President and Chief Executive Officer, commented on the expansion. “As an industry leader in quality and service, Buzzi Unicem USA is committed to sustainable, environmentally responsible manufacturing at all of its plants,” said Nepereny. “The Maryneal plant expansion will result in a world-class facility that has the latest pyroprocessing, environmental and safety equipment.”

The Maryneal plant currently employs approximately 100 full time workers. The expansion will solidify the jobs for the plant’s workforce and create more than 200 construction jobs during the estimated 2 – 3 year expansion project.
