EBITDA reaches historic levels for Cementos Argos in 2012
Colombia’s Cementos Argos saw EBITDA rise by an historic 25% y/y in 2012. Total cement sales volumes increased by 6% y/y to 10. 8 million t during the year, while concrete sales came in at 8.5 million m3, up 9% y/y.
In Colombia, sales were driven by increased infrastructure development. Plans have been approved for the cement producer to invest in an expansion project in the centre of the country, which will help it to efficiently meet expected growth in the regional market. Cementos Argos has continued to increase its product portfolio in the Caribbean, starting up concrete operations in the Dominican Republic, Haiti and Suriname. The company is also involved in infrastructure projects, such as the expansion of the Panama Canal and metro in Panama. In the US, the cement and concrete operations acquired from Lafarge at the end of 2011 have been successfully integrated.
