World Cement,
The US Department of Energy (DOE) has announced the release of the report ‘Barriers to Industrial Energy Efficiency’. It was prepared in response to Section 7 of the American Energy Manufacturing Technical Corrections Act.
DOE worked with representatives from industrial associations, combined heat and power (CHP) groups, environmental stewardship organisations, associations of state governmental agencies and federal governmental agencies to complete the report.
The report examines barriers that are stopping the implementation of energy efficient technologies and practices in the industrial sector and finds resolutions to overcome these barriers.
It also estimates economic benefits from hypothetical Federal energy efficiency matching grants.
Three groups of energy efficiency technologies and measures were focused on:
- Industrial end-use energy efficiency.
- Industrial demand response.
- Industrial combined heat and power.
In all, 42 barriers were identified that affect the use of industrial energy efficiency across all three groups and there were a variety of successful examples were identified to address these barriers.
While this shows the important role that industrial energy efficiency has in the US, it is noted that there may be potential barriers and opportunities not mentioned and addressed in the report. To read more, click here.
