World Cement,

The 7th biennial Building Materials Analysis (BMA) workshop will be held in a few months time, from 14 - 17 June 2015. The workshop, previously held in Europe, is this year located in Anaheim, California, USA. The BMA workshop offers a focus for all professionals in the field of building materials analysis, from engineers to researchers and scientists.

This year, the BMA will have a particular emphasis on cement analysis in production, new cements for sustainability and CO2 reduction and quantitative analysis for QC of blended cements. Presentations held by guest speakers include: ‘Routine X-ray characterisation of cement containing inorganic additions’, ‘XRF analysis of soluble elements in cement and concrete’ and ‘Smarter materials for better cities’.

PANalytical will host presentations and workshops on analysis of cement, clinker, raw materials and supplementary cementitious materials. It will hold presentations on ‘Neutron and X-ray analysis - additional eyes to the cement making process’, ‘Phase analysis of raw materials, clinker and cement’ and, presented by Claisse as a PANalytical company; ‘The evolution and interplay of XRF, inter-element corrections, and sample preparation in the history of ASTM C114'.

There will also be an extra two optional half-day courses. The morning course teaches about X-ray diffraction and Rietveld analysis on blended cements and will be a hands-on course; it is advised to bring your own data. The afternoon session highlights X-ray fluorescence and sample preparation in the cement industry.
