Lafarge North America received recognition for its Presque Isle Quarry in Michigan at the 2015 National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association's (NSSGA) Safety, Environment and Community Relations Excellence Awards. The quarry received the silver level award for community relations.

"Our plant is committed to being a leader in environmental excellence and a good neighbour," said plant manager Allan Idalski. "We are honoured to be recognised for the considerable amount of effort our team put in to being good stewards of the environment and our community."

The Safety, Environment and Community Relations Award from NSSGA is given to sites based on seven factors, including community relations and outreach, donations and services, and education. The Presque Isle Quarry partners with organisations such as Ducks Unlimited, 4H, the World Wildlife Federation and many others on environmental projects at the quarry. In addition, the quarry works with local schools and youth organisations to host an average of five education tours and fossil digs every year.

These awards recognise aggregates operations in the United States and Canada that are committed to safety, superior environmental stewardship and community involvement.

This is only the latest award given to the Lafarge Presque Isle Quarry, which earlier this year received two awards from the Wildlife Habitat Council for its commitment to environmental and conservation management at the site.
