Cement sales improved month-on-month in Ecuador in October 2014

According to Ecuador’s cement association, grey cement sales reached 602 748 t in October 2014. This is down on last October when 611 987 t was dispatched. However, the figure does represent an improvement on September 2014, when sales came in at 574 968 t.

Puerto Rico

The Government Development Bank for Puerto Rico’s latest Economic Activity Index (GDB-EAI) reveals cement sales figures for September 2014. Approximately 1.1 million bags of cement were sold during the month, a 9.7% decrease when compared with September 2013.

Overall, the Index fell by 1.8% y/y but grew by 0.5% m/m.

Cataluña, Spain

Ciment Català, the regional cement association for Cataluña, has revealed that local cement consumption totalled 126 788 t in October 2014. This is up 4.3% y/y, although remains far below pre-crisis consumption levels.

The growth rate for the region is below that of Spain as a whole, which increased by 5% y/y in October. This is the fourteenth month in a row that cement consumption in Cataluña has fallen behind the country’s total. In the first ten months of the year, cement consumption in Spain declined by 0.5% y/y, whereas in Cataluña it dropped by 12.7% y/y.

On a more positive note, cement production in the region was up 25.2% y/y in October to 176 609 t, with exports of cement and clinker rising by 85.5% y/y to 202 574 t.
