Peru’s cement dispatches up slightly in January – July 2014
The Peruvian cement association, ASOCEM, has reported that its members sold 845 907 t of cement on the domestic market in July 2014, along with 23 177 t for export. Cement dispatches were 0.11% higher in the first seven months of this year than they were in January – July 2013.
According to the country’s National Institute of Statistics and Information (INEI), the Peruvian economy grew 3.3% in 1H14 and 0.3% y/y in June 2014 alone. The construction sector experienced a 3.13% y/y rise in activity in June, driven by private sector residential activity, port infrastructure work and commercial building among others. Peru’s mining and hydrocarbon sector contracted by 5.93% y/y, while manufacturing declined by 8.26% y/y.
