Caterpillar CEO to retire

Caterpillar Inc Chairman and CEO Doug Oberhelman has elected to retire after more than 41 years with the company, effective 31 March 2017. Oberhelman led the company to its highest sales and revenue peak in its 91-year history in 2012, and, since that time, has successfully led the company through the unprecedented downturn affecting our key industries.
Jim Umpleby, who is currently a Caterpillar Group President with responsibility for Energy and Transportation has been elected by the Board of Directors to succeed as CEO. Umpleby has been with the company for 35 years and will join the Board and become CEO effective 1 January 2017.
