US cement shipments up 8% y/y in November 2012

The USGS has released its Mineral Industry Survey for cement in November 2012. In the US and Puerto Rico, Portland and blended cement shipments increased by almost 8% y/y to reach 6.6 million t, while accumulated shipments through to November came in at 74.2 million t, up 10% y/y. Texas, Missouri, California, Florida and Michigan produced the largest volumes of cement, accounting for 44% of shipments, while Texas, California and Florida were the three biggest consumer states during the month.

Clinker production came in at 6 million t in November, down slightly y/y, although production for January – November 2012 increased by around 8% y/y. California, Missouri and Texas were the leading producers of clinker. With regards to masonry cement, shipments in November were up 11% y/y to 163 000 t. In the first 11 months of the year, shipments grew 6% y/y to reach 1.81 million t. Around 48% of November’s shipments were received by Florida, Texas, California, North Carolina and Tennessee.
