US cement production rises in January 2018

The US Geological Survey reported a year-on-year rise in shipments of portland and blended cement in the US and Pueto Rico. Shipments rose 5.7% compared to January 2017 to about 5.8 million t.
Masonry cement shipments were down, however, around 5.6% at 0.168 million t.
Texas, California, Florida, Missouri, and Alabama led production of cement in January 2018. Leading consuming states of portland and blended cements were Texas, California, Florida, Arizona, and Georgia, which combined received around 51% of January shipments.
Masonry cement consumption was highest in Florida, Texas, California, Georgia, and North Carolina, which together accounted to nearly 65% of January shipments.
Clinker production was up 3.9% year on year at 4.8 million t. January imports of cement were also up 13% to about 0.8 million t.
