FLSmidth expands presence in Colombia with new office in Barranquilla
FLSmidth has strengthened its presence in the Colombian market with the establishment of a new office in Barranquilla. The new location, which was opened on 1 January 2014, will help the company to enhance its local service offerings. The expansion forms part of FLSmidth’s plan to bring its services closer to customers around the world.
FLSmidth has provided services to the Colombian cement market for the last several years. For example, in 2007, it supplied engineering, project management, training, commissioning, major and auxiliary equipment to Cementos Argos’ cement plant in Cartagena.
Increased political stability and the growth of the middle class have contributed to economic growth in the country and also benefited the cement sector. FLSmidth expects this trend to continue, resulting in a number of new cement plant, maintenance and operation contract opportunities within the industry. In addition, Colombia’s mineral resources could provide opportunities within the mineral processing and materials handling sectors in the longer-term.
