Two Holcim US plants win third consecutive ENERGY STAR award

World Cement,

Two Holcim (US) Inc. plants have been awarded the EPA’s ENERGY STAR® award for the third consecutive year, and three plants have received the award for the first time.

Holcim’s plants at Devil’s Slide in Morgan, UT and Theodore, AL have both achieved the award three years running, while Ste Genevieve (Bloomsdale, MO), Trident (Three Forks, MT) and Holly Hill (Holly Hill, SC) are newcomers to the award.

ENERGY STAR is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy, which aims to help individuals and businesses reduce their environmental impact and save money by improving energy efficiency. The national energy performance rating system provides a 1 – 100 scale that helps organizations assess how efficiently their facilities use energy relative to similar facilities nationwide. A cement plant that scores a rating of 75 or higher and meets all other official EPA requirements is eligible for the ENERGY STAR®.

"The fact that two of Holcim (US) cement plants have received this award for three consecutive years demonstrates the commitment our management team and employees have to protecting the environment," said Bernard Terver, President and Chief Executive Officer of Holcim (US).

Mr. Terver added, "Adding three plants to the list is an outstanding accomplishment for our employees who are dedicated to doing what we can to conserve our natural resources."

One of the new plants to receive the award is Ste Genevieve, which was inaugurated last June and is one of the largest cement production facilities in the world, with 12 000 tpd capacity. More information about the plant will be available in the May 2011 issue of World Cement.
