NSSGA Occupation Health Programme in focus at NIOSH workshop

At the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) workshop on safety and health for underground mines, which took place last week, the NSSGA’s Occupational Health Programme came into focus.
The NSSGA promotes the establishment of programmes that will develop a knowledgeable workforce capable of recognising, analysing and avoiding inherent hazards of the work environment. The OHP can help to safeguard worker health through exposure monitoring and medical surveillance.
Joseph Casper, NSSGA vice president of safety, presented industry best practices at the workshop, and also highlighted NSSGA’s OHP at the Louisville, Ky., meeting that was attended by over 200 people. “NSSGA’s Occupational Health Program is a user-friendly guide that helps all mine operators to learn what is needed to get ahead of the curve in safeguarding worker wellness,” Casper said.
The NSSGA has long supported NIOSH’s work, including their proposed research on worker safety and health.
