CeraTech joins the 2030 Challenge for Products
Low carbon cement manufacturer, CeraTech, has joined the ‘2030 Challenge for Products’ initiative organised by Architecture 2030. The challenge involves lowering the built environment’s carbon footprint. For building products, this means aiming to meet the following embodied carbon-equivalent footprint reduction targets:
- 35% or better in 2015.
- 40% or better in 2020.
- 45% or better in 2025.
- 50% or better in 2030.
“Given that we are manufacturing a non-portland cement with the lowest carbon footprint in the industry, we are confident that we will be able to meet or exceed those milestones,” said Mark Wasilko, CeraTech's Executive Vice President. “In fact, CeraTech's EPD rating also shows significant reductions in total primary energy consumption, water savings, and climate change/global warming potential.”
Earlier this year, CeraTech released an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for ekkomaxx™ concrete, the first of its kind for non-portland bulk cement concrete. The EPD quantifies that the product provides a 95% reduction in the use of virgin resources and a 505 reduction in terms of water use.
