Maptek has announced that Sam Shoemaker has joined its North American office as a Principal Engineer to further develop its resource estimation and long range strategic mine planning capabilities.

Shoemaker has over 30 years of experience in mining engineering, particularly in delivering detailed open pit mine planning and mine design projects.‘I’m very excited to join the team at Maptek,’ Shoemaker said. ‘As a longtime Maptek customer, it is a privilege and pleasure to be able to contribute to Maptek’s success after so many years of benefiting from their technology.’

Most recently Shoemaker was responsible for establishing the Salt Lake City, Utah office of Barr Engineering where he served as a Senior Mining Consultant. Prior to joining Barr, Shoemaker held several senior engineering and management positions.

‘We are thrilled to have Sam join our team here at Maptek,’ commented Rob Hardman, General Manager of Maptek North America.

‘Sam brings a level of proven, real-world expertise that’s unmatched in our industry. His leadership and experience will be an asset to our customers in North America and elsewhere, and to our entire company,’ continued Hardman.

Shoemaker will focus on leading consulting engagements and supporting Maptek Vulcan and Evolution sales for the North American region. He will also play a lead role in mentoring and developing Maptek staff, as well as identifying areas to expand the Maptek product portfolio and support customers.

‘As an engineer my philosophy is simple - plan the mine, mine the plan - and that’s very much the mindset of the team I’m joining,’ noted Shoemaker. ‘What I’m looking forward to most at Maptek is working with great products and even better people.’
