Two Roanoke Cement Company Terminals Recognised for health and safety programmes

World Cement,

The North Carolina Department of Labour (NCDOL) will honour Roanoke Cement Company’s Winston-Salem and Castle Hayne terminal sites this month.

The Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) acknowledges businesses with exemplary safety and health programs that comply voluntarily with the applicable standards.

"I congratulate Roanoke Cement Company on achieving status in the SHARP program," said John R. Bogner, Jr., Consultative Services Bureau Chief, OSHA/NCDOL. "As a SHARP employer, you have corrected all workplace hazards identified by our consultants and have agreed to maintain an ongoing, effective workplace safety and health management system. We sincerely appreciate the efforts put forth by your company and its employees."

Both terminal sites were previously recognised by NCDOL for their exemplary safety performance and each has achieved gold safety status in North Carolina. Earlier this year, the Portland Cement Association awarded the Winston-Salem terminal site first place for safety in its category in the US. Official ceremonies will be held later this month at each terminal by the NCDOL, whose representatives will present each Roanoke Cement terminal manager with a flag to be flown at their campus recognising this achievement.

Roanoke Cement Company is a subsidiary of Titan America LLC, one of the leading heavy building materials producers in the eastern USA. Titan America is headquartered in Norfolk, VA and their products include cement, aggregates, ready-mixed concrete and flyash beneficiation. Its parent company, Titan Cement Company, S.A., headquartered in Athens, Greece, is a signatory to the UN Global Compact, a group of companies committed to sustainable and socially responsible business practices.
