Cement sales in Ecuador and Argentina rise year-on-year
In Argentina, Portland cement manufacturers sold 1.05 million t of cement in September, including exports. This represents a 2.7% decline compared to the previous month but is still 15.8% higher than in September 2012. Looking at domestic consumption alone, sales reached 1.04 million t, down 2.8% m/m and up 17% y/y.
Meanwhile, in Ecuador, sales increased from 519 920 t in September 2012 to 565 775 t in September of this year. However, this is less than August, when despatches came in at 579 080 t. Accumulated sales for January – September 2013 stand at 4.84 million t thus far.
Domestic sales of cement in Brazil were up 8.8% y/y to 6.2 million t in September. Sales volumes for the first nine months of the year grew by 2.2% y/y to 52.428 million t.
