Buzzi Unicem's Chattanooga, Festus, Maryneal, and San Antonio cement plants in the US have been awarded 2018 ENERGY STAR certification. The award marks the tenth year in a row the Chattanooga, Festus, and Maryneal plants have received the certification, and the fifth year in a rod the San Antonio plant has been certified.
In order to qualify for ENERGY STAR recognition, cement plants must score at least 75 on the Energy Performance Indicator , used by the US Environmental Protection Agency to measure energy efficiency. In addition, the plant must have a satisfactory environmental compliance record for the past three years. Receipt of the ENERGY STAR certification means these four plants perform in the top 25% of similar facilities nationwide.
