David Zachry appointed Chairman of ARTBA

The American Road & Transport Builders Association (ARTBA) has elected David S. Zachry as 2015-16 Chairman. David Zachry is the CEO of Texas-based Zachry Corporation, which builds large-scale projects around the world, including highways, bridges, waterways, museums, hotels and hospitals.
Prior to being elected as Chairman, Zachry served as Senior Vice Chairman, First Vice Chairman and Vice Chairman at-large. He is currently Chair of the steering committee of the Construction Industry Ethics & Compliance Initiative and serves on the Texas A&M Civil Engineering Advisory Council and on the boards of the Southwest Research Institute and the Associated General Contractors of America.
Outlining his goals as ARTBA Chairman, Zachry said the association will remain laser-focused on its mission of ensuring a long-term Highway Trust Fund fix and congressional approval of a multi-year bill that boosts federal surface transportation investment. The association will also advocate for increased federal investment in airport construction as part of the reauthorisation of the nation’s aviation programmes.
Zachry pledged to build the number of firms and organisations supporting the “Transportation Makes America Work” lobbying and advocacy communications programme to help ensure the industry has the financial muscle to achieve its legislative goals.
Also among Zachry’s ambitions for the association is the expansion of training initiatives and engaging the next generation of industry leaders in supporting the association’s advocacy mission, including supporting the professional development of women in the industry.
Established in 1902, Washington, D.C.-based ARTBA is the “consensus voice” of the U. transportation design and construction industry before Congress, federal agencies, the White House, news media and the general public.
