Intense work at Port-Daniel-Gascons

McInnis Cement is building a cement plant representing one of the largest industrial projects currently under construction in eastern North America. The plant will have an initial production capacity of 2.2 million metric tpy of cement. It is located in the municipality of Port-Daniel-Gascons, in Gaspésie.

The site was selected because of the quality of its limestone deposit and the possibility to build a deep-water marine terminal.

Following the construction holiday, the McInnis Cement project at Port-Daniel-Gascons is entering an intense phase of work.

Between 600 and 700 workers will be performing demanding work during the next few weeks and into the Autumn. Work will mainly focus on the completion of concrete structures.

In August 2015, major concrete pours will take place, including:

• at the marine terminal where various bases and piles will be put in place for the mooring dolphins and buoys;
• for the primary and secondary crusher foundations;
• for the two kiln pillars;
• for several foundations in the warehouses, and;
• for the bases of the cement storage silos.

Dynamiting of various outcrops and platforms will end soon. At the electrical substation, transformers and various related equipment are being installed. The foundations of the administrative building are completed.
