The tallest building in San Francisco, the 61 storey Salesforce Tower, is now open. Helping to create the foundation and support construction of the new addition to the city’s iconic skyline, CEMEX played a key role in the project from the beginning.
The building, covering 1.4 million ft2 (130 000 m2), has been named as a finalist in CEMEX’s 2018 Building Award. Reaching a height of 1070 ft (325 m), the skyscraper has been designed to meet the high demand for residential and office space in San Francisco. The Salesforce Tower is the second tallest building west of the Mississippi River.
Throughout the project, CEMEX provided around 110 000 yd3 (84 000 m3) of ready-mix concrete, 7300 yd3 (5500 m3) of which was part of the second-largest mat pour in San Francisco’s history. The pour took 18 hours and required the use of more than 130 ready-mix concrete trucks. In this one pour, CEMEX was able to provide 12 000 yd3 of the concrete required for the job.
CEMEX also provided further ready-mix concrete for the core walls in the interior of the structure, which are 4 ft thick at its base.
Two central themes of the tower were sustainability and environmental performance. Developers included low environmental impact, state-of-the-art amenities for consideration for LEED Platinum status. Design features include recycled water and rainwater use, incorporating natural daylight into the design, building with recycled material where possible, innovative power-saving features, and 100% natural air on all floors.
“Our customers are at the centre of everything we do and Salesforce Tower exemplifies our commitment to providing top quality of service and products for industry-leading projects,” said Ignacio Madridejos, President of CEMEX USA. “We are proud to contribute to the evolution of the nation’s skylines and partner with some of the more renowned architects, developers, and suppliers in the world. These buildings need strong foundations and those foundations start with CEMEX.”
“Working on Salesforce Tower has been a great source of pride for our Bay Area employees,” said Eric Wittmann, West Region President. “Our sales staff, technical teams, and drivers have helped create a legacy for the Bay Area to enjoy for generations.”
CEMEX is a global building materials company that provides high quality products and reliable service to customers and communities in more than 50 countries throughout the world.
