US cement statistics for July 2011
Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico for July 2011 were 6.8 million t. This was only slightly higher than shipments in July 2010. Shipments for the year through July were 38.8 million t, essentially unchanged from the same period in 2010. The leading producing states in July were Texas, California, Missouri, Michigan, and Pennsylvania, in descending order, and accounted for about 41% of the total production. The leading consuming states (Texas, California, Florida, Ohio, and Pennsylvania, in descending order) received about 34% of the July total shipments.
Clinker production totaled 5.7 million t in July, slightly higher than the output in July 2010. Production for the year through July was 34.2 million t, slightly lower than that for the same period in 2010. The leading clinker-producing states in July were California, Texas, Missouri, Pennsylvania, and Michigan, in descending order, and these accounted for 46% of the total for the month.
Masonry cement shipments in July of about 162 000 t were about 8% lower than shipments in July 2010. Shipments for the year through July were 1.06 million t, down by almost 9% from those through July 2010. The leading consuming states, in descending order, were Texas, Florida, California, North Carolina, and Tennessee, and these took about 38% of July’s total shipments.
July 2011 imports of cement and clinker of about 613 000 t were down by 17% from those in July 2010. Imports for the year totaled 3.48 million t, down by about 6% from those for the year through July 2010.
