Cement statistics for the US sector in June
The USGS has released its Mineral Industry Survey for the US and Puerto Rican cement sectors in June 2012. Shipments of Portland and blended cements reached 7.6 million t, marking a 5% increase on shipment levels compared to June 2011. Shipments from January to June also increased by 15% to 37 million t, with Texas the largest producer and consumer of cement. There was a 3% y/y fall in shipments of Masonry cement in June, although there was positive growth in January – June, with shipments up 6% y/y to 943 000 t. The states of Texas, Florida, California, North Carolina and Georgia were the biggest consumers, accounting for 44% of the total figure in June 2012.
Meanwhile, clinker production increased by 8% y/y in June, reaching 6.3 million t. California, Missouri and Texas produced the highest amounts of clinker. Clinker production for January – June came in at 31.7 million t, signalling a growth of 11% y/y.
