More progress on preventing WOTUS rule

The US Federal Water Quality Protection Act, S. 1140, is making progress. The Senate Environment and Public Works committee marked it up yesterday and it passed along partisan lines. No vote for the full Senate is scheduled as yet.
The National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association (NSSGA) reports that Democrats and Republicans ‘sparred over the true implications’ of he rule, which would force EPA to start over with the Waters of the US (WOTUS) rule. The rule brings more land under federal jurisdiction and is argued to be damaging to the aggregates industry and transportation initiatives. NSSGA President and CEO Michael W. Johnson cautioned that the rule would have costly consequences and little environmental benefit. He said that the EPA has created a rule that expands their jurisdiction and that ultimately taxpayers would pay the price.
