US cement shipments up 10% y/y in January – September 2012

The USGS has released its monthly report into cement and clinker statistics in the US and Puerto Rico for September 2012. Shipments of blended and Portland cement fell slightly y/y to 7 million t during the month, although shipments from January – September increased by 10% to reach 59.6 million t. The top three cement producing states were Texas, Missouri and California. The biggest consumers were Texas, California, Florida, Ohio and Illinois, which received 35% of the month’s shipments between them. Shipments of masonry cement rose a little to 163 000 t in September, and by 5% y/y to 1.47 million t in January – September.

Clinker production increased in the first nine months of year, up 9% y/y to 49.9 million t. The amount of clinker produced in September alone also saw a rise compared to 2011 levels, growing by 3% to 6 million t. Texas, California, Missouri, Florida and Alabama produced the highest amounts of clinker during the month.
