Cemex installs new solid waste system in Mexico
Cemex has installed a mobile plant that sorts solid waste in Mexico. The system receives, crushes, separates, classifies and compacts solid waste, producing bales that can be used as alternative fuels at the company’s cement plants. The system offers a solution for nearby landfills, whilst improving the recovery rate of recyclables and providing an alternative fuel source. It is predicted to reduce CO2 emissions by 130 000 tpa.
The new system will be rolled out throughout the country, beginning in Central Mexico. Cemex Mexico’s production target is 10 000 t of alternative fuels by December 2013.
