World Cement,

Cimpor has approved a new greenfield project – an integrated clinker and cement plant in Cerrado Grande, State of Paraná, South Brazil.

Following the 25 November 2010 announcement of cement production capacity increases in the Brazilian Northeast (Caxitú) and Centre-West (Cezarina) regions, Cimpor completes with this new investment the disclosure of a significant increase of its production capacities in all of its main Brazilian industrial footprint regions.

The new Cerrado Grande plant will be supplied by a Cimpor owned limestone quarry and it will have a production capacity of circa 1.2 million tpa of cement.

The construction of the new plant is set to begin in early 2012, production starting in early 2014. Project total investment is estimated at €190 million.

This new cement production plant will allow the company to benefit from the forecasted growth of the South and Southeast markets of Brazil, as the present units are operating at full capacity.

With the completion of the investments announced in November 2010 and of this new Cerrado Grande plant, Cimpor will increase its production capacity in Brazil by 2.6 million tpa, reaching a total capacity of 9.1 million t of cement with own clinker, 40% above its present capacity of 6.5 million t.
