According to their respective national cement associations, August 2012 saw a growth in cement sales levels in certain South American countries. Bolivia's accumulated cement sales reached almost 1.77 million t, representing an increase from the 1.64 million t figure recorded in the same month last year. SOBOCE amassed the highest sales volumes at 912 230 t, and a production level of 912 953 t. Brazil also saw a rise in cement sales in August. Domestic sales levels reached 6.3 million t, up 7.3% y/y. Across the border, Chile’s cement despatches rose from 364 085 t in July 2012 to 399 168 t in August. However, preliminary statistics suggest that these levels fell to approximately 340 000 t in September. In Peru, domestic sales reached 876 405 t, while sales from January to August 2012 reveal an increase of 16.8% y/y. August exports came in at just under 15 800 t.
