Argentina

According to the Argentine Association of Portland Cement Manufacturers, domestic cement consumption increased by 16.1% y/y to reach 914 964 t in December 2013. Despite representing a year-on-year rise, the figure is 12.6% lower than the previous month of November. Total cement dispatches, including exports, came in at 927 964 t. This is down 12.6% when compared to November 2013 but is 14.7% higher than the corresponding month in 2012.

Canary Islands

The latest statistics from ISTAC reveal that cement sales in the Canary Islands fell from 38 881 t in October 2013 to 36 154 t in November. On an accumulated basis, sales for January – November 2013 stand at 421 496 t of cement.

Sales volumes in Lanzarote also declined m/m, dropping by 13.11% from 4339 t in October to 3771 t in November 2013. However, November’s results are an improvement on the same month in 2012, when 2527 t of cement was sold. Sales for the first 11 months of the year have risen by 26.6% y/y to reach 37 684 t, up from 29 771 t in January – November 2012.

Portugal

FEPICOP’s latest report on the Portuguese construction sector states that domestic cement consumption declined by 25.2% in January – October 2013, an historic low for the industry.
