World Cement,
Rep. Tom Reed, R-NY, recently met with the Gernatt Family of Companies at an event held at the company’s Country Side Sand and Gravel operation on 30 August.
Staff and leaders from the Gernatt Family of Companies educated Rep. Reed on the ways in which the aggregates industry contributes to much need infrastructure projects in the US, with CEO Dan Gernatt discussing the implementation of the FAST Act, identifying future funding sources for the federal highway programme and the issue of government overreach and over-regulation with Reed.“The active dredging operation at Country Side is a prime example of how a well-planned operation can provide quality aggregates for much-needed public works projects while ultimately enhancing the community,” said Bill Schmitz, vice president of quality control and sales at Gernatt Asphalt Products Inc.
These kinds of meetings, which could also include quarry tours and other functions, help build relationships between aggregates producers and their members of Congress, and they are at the heart of NSSGA’s Driving It Home grassroots effort.
“The importance of creating and maintaining relationships with members of Congress cannot be overstated,” said Jim Riley, NSSGA senior director of government affairs. “Having a positive relationship can open doors and allow the industry’s position on issues to be heard by decision makers.”
