Roanoke Cement gains further environmental recognition

Published by , Editor
World Cement,

Roanoke Cement Company, a subsidiary of Titan America, has been formally recognised as an Exemplary Environmental Enterprise within the Virginia Environmental Excellence Program (VEEP). David Paylor, the Commonwealth’s DEQ Director, toured the company’s main campus last week to see how the cement company has gone above and beyond the requirements of environmental regulations to establish even better benchmarks of performance. On the facility-based track of VEEP, the use of environmental management systems (EMS) and pollution prevention is encouraged to help minimise the environmental impact of facility operations.

RCC has implemented the ‘Envirolis’ EMS to ensure that regulatory requirements are met. Focus was on the social, environmental and economic aspects of sustainability. Certification to E3 included several visits to the site by DEQ, including a full day with DEQ’s Pollution Prevention team.

Earlier this year we reported that Roanoke Cement Company had achieved its seventh consecutive ENERGY STAR® award from the EPA. Other environmental recognition has come from the Portland Cement Association, which awarded the Troutville plant the Cement Industry Energy and Environment ‘Outreach’ Award. The site is also certified by the Wildlife Habitat Council.
