Highway Trust Fund is still under construction

World Cement,
With gas taxes covering increasingly less of America’s infrastructure costs, it has been necessary for policymakers to divert billions of dollars from the general fund and other non-transportation funds to pay for infrastructure. Jack Basso, chairman of the Mileage Based User Fee Alliance, and Kevin Burke, president and CEO of the Airports Council International – North America, will speak to the attendees of the annual Highway Materials Group (HMG) meeting about the status of pilot projects implementing a mileage based user fee and FAA reauthorisation and funding for the Airport Improvement Program respectively.
The HMG meeting precedes the TCC Fly-In. At the meeting, Sen. Tom Carper, D-Del., and Rep. Jim Renacci, R-Ind. will speak to those attendees about Senate Finance Committee and House Ways and Means Committee action on tax reform and finding a sustainable funding mechanism for the Highway Trust Fund.
“This event is a great opportunity to thank your members of Congress for their support of the FAST Act and to make sure they know the job is not done,” said Pam Whitted, senior vice president of government and regulatory affairs. “A multi-year highway bill was signed into law last December, and it was a great step forward. However, Congress must find a long-term funding solution to improve our infrastructure.”
