Four Lehigh Hanson cement plants achieve ENERGY STAR® certification

World Cement,

Four of Lehigh Hanson’s cement plants have achieved the EPA’s ENERGY STAR® certification for 2014. Lehigh’s cement plants in Leeds, Ala., Union Bridge, Md., Glen Falls, NY, and Redding, Calif., all perform in the top 25% of cement plants in the US in terms of energy efficiency, meeting strict energy efficiency performance levels set by the EPA.

In addition to the ENERGY STAR certification, Lehigh Hanson has taken a range of steps to reduce its environmental impact. This includes implementing operational efficiency programmes across all of its business lines and ensuring that strict energy management is a priority at its production facilities. Lehigh Hanson is an ENERGY STAR corporate partner and is the only aggregates producer that has seen four of its crushed stone plants achieve the EPA’s ENERGY STAR Challenge for Industry.

“At Lehigh Hanson, we are committed to operating in a safe and environmentally responsible manner,” said Dan Harrington, President and CEO. “The superior energy management efforts at the Leeds, Union Bridge, Glens Falls and Redding cement manufacturing facilities are a clear reflection of this commitment. We are extremely proud of these four plants and pleased that our ongoing efforts are recognised by the EPA.”

“Improving the energy efficiency of our nation’s industrial facilities is critical to protecting our environment,” said Jean Lupinacci, Chief, ENERGY STAR Commercial and Industrial Branch. “From the plant floor to the board room, organisations are leading the way by making their facilities more energy efficient and earning EPA’s ENERGY STAR certification.”
