Argos partners with EAFIT University to build innovation centre on campus

On 26 November 2013, Colombian cement giant Argos signed an agreement with EAFIT University for the construction of a centre of innovation on campus. The Argos Centre of Innovation aims to generate new ideas, research and development into processes, products, applications, services and business models. The mega centre, which represents an investment of COP23 700 million, will further strengthen the relationship between Argos and the university. The building will be designed by architect Lorenzo Castro according to LEED standards. Covering an area of 4800 m2, the centre will include laboratories, offices and special installations. The surrounding space will also feature communal areas and green spaces.

According to the latest statistics from DANE, domestic sales of grey cement were up 13.7% y/y in September 2013, with production increasing by 12.1% y/y to more than 1 million t.

In the first nine months of 2013, Argos saw its total cement sales rise by 4% y/y 8.5 million t. The company also reported positive results for the Colombian market in 3Q13, with cement sales growing by 5% y/y.
