Cemex begins construction of affordable housing units

Construction has begun on 186 housing units in Dan Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic, where Cemex is undertaking an affordable housing project. The 186 homes are part of the Altos del Higuamo project, which will include a total of 568 houses at an investment of approximately US$18 million.

The housing complex includes green, institutional service and commercial areas, a playground and sports facilities, a sewage treatment plant, underground cables, concrete streets and solar energy in common areas.

Speaking at the ceremony commemorating the start of construction, Carlos Gonzalez, President of Cement in the Dominican Republic, said, “Cemex has the technology, international experience and capacity to participate in any stage of our client’s projects, in order to become their ally and provide them with the service they require. Our goal is to work together with the communities, government, developers, builders and other sectors, to channel resources, technology and our know-how, in order to build cities that are more sustainable.”

The first 60 housing units will be delivered in December 2013.
