Ash Grove Cement Company plant wins maintenance award

Successful equipment maintenance management ensures reliable, efficient plant production and safer operations. For 2015, the Ash Grove Cement Company’s Montana City, Montana, plant won top honors in the company-wide annual Maintenance Excellence Program (MEP) competition.

“Ash Grove’s MEP process provides for optimal equipment performance making the company a low cost, high quality producer in the industry,” said Bruce Newell, Ash Grove vice president - manufacturing services. “The Montana City employees exhibited comprehensive planning, safe work execution and diligent attention to equipment reliability making them the 2015 MEP award winner.”

“Earning this award requires the participation of every employee so that the plant is conducting preventive maintenance rather than fixing broken equipment,” said Dick Johnson, Ash Grove Cement Montana City plant manager. “I’m pleased with the teamwork that led us here.”

Established in 2008, the MEP award is based on key performance indicators including the actual maintenance cost per equivalent ton of cement. The measures track both financial and functional performance as to how well plants master the MEP concept and improve their overall maintenance performance. Eight Ash Grove cement manufacturing plants and two grinding facilities compete annually to earn the award.

Ash Grove Cement Montana City also earned the 2015 Ash Grove Energy Management (AGem) award recognising excellence in energy and resource management.
