Cimentos da Bahia to build new plant in Brazil
According to local news reports, Brazil’s Cimentos da Bahia S/A has signed a protocol of intention with the Government of Bahia regarding the construction of a cement plant in the state. The 300 hectare site will be located in Paripiranga, around 366 km from Salvador. The plant will have a production capacity of 2 million tpa of Portland cement and will supply the markets in Bahia, Sergipe, Alagoas, Pernambuco, Paraíba and Rio Grande do Norte. The project represents an investment of R$850 million. Construction is due to commence in November 2013 with operations expected to begin in 2016. The building stage of the project is likely to generate around 800 direct jobs, while an estimated 300 direct and 1200 indirect posts will be created in the operational phase.
