Climbing global cement consumption

Published by , Editor
World Cement,

According to a new report from Portland Cement Association (PCA), global cement consumption is on the rise, with an expected growth of 2.2% this year, followed by 3.7% in 2016 and near 4% for the 2017 – 2018 period. Cement consumption among developed economies is estimated to have gone up by 9.2 million t in 2014, and a further 9 million t increase is expected this year.

This positive outlook is buoyed by economic growth in North America, but modest gains are also forecast in Europe, thanks to a gradual recovery among several Eurozone economies. In Asia, growth rates are expected to slow. China’s predicted 7% economic growth in 2015, for example, is well below the double-digit rates experienced in 2010 and 2011. North America is projected to grow rapidly in comparison with other countries – an anticipated growth of over 7.4 million t – due to its national economic growth.
