Martel takes helm at CSL Group

Louis Martel has succeeded Rod Jones as President and CEO of CSL Group, a global shipping company that handles over 78 million tpy of cargo, including clinker and other dry bulk commodities. The appointment comes after an eight-month transition process that began in September 2016.

Martel first joined CSL in 1997 and has held a number of positions at the company since then, most recently as President of CSL International and Executive Vice-President of the CSL Group.

“Over the course of his twenty-year career at CSL, Martel has played a pivotal role in driving innovations and positioning CSL and out customers ahead of the rapid pace of change in the shipping industry,” said Paul Martin, Chair of CSL’s Board of Directors. “We are confident her will provide the strategic vision and drive to lead CSL into the future.”

Martel will lead a new executive team at CSL Group comprising Bill Bisset, Executive Vice-President & Chief Commercial Officer, Allister Paterson, Executive Vice-President & Chief Operating Officer, Steeve Thibeault, Chief Financial Officer, Martine Rivard, Chief Human Resources & Communications Officer and John Sypnowich, Chief Legal & Compliance Officer.

“These may not be easy times for the shipping industry, but they are certainly inspiring us at CSL to think outside the box to better serve our customers and operate as safely and responsibly as we can,” said Martel. “As we begin this new era at CSL, I couldn’t be working with a more solid executive or more talented and creative ship and shore teams.”

Headquartered in Montreal, Canada, CSL Group operates through the Americas, Australia, Europe and Asia.
