Cemex rehabilitates key road in Panama village

As part of Cemex’s efforts to provide innovative solutions for all types of infrastructure needs, the company brought Unicapa, a special pavement application solution for rural and difficult access road, to the small town of Parita in Panama. The town, which has a rich colonial heritage, has been having difficulties using machinery for agriculture, due to the poor state of the roads.

The initial pilot project was the rehabilitation of the Camino El Limon, a key road for the town. For the 200 m road, Cemex used 1000 bags of cement. According to Luis Miguel Martín, Infrastructure and Housing Manager for Cemex in Panama, this road was chosen because it “serves various farms in the region and could potentially serve an entire community. [However] in the winter season they can’t farm, they’re not able to do so, because the road is not in a trafficable condition.” With Cemex technology, he explains, the goal is to keep this road trafficable year-round.
